About Us

North County Regional Occupational Program

NCROP operates as a Joint Powers Agency (JPA) between Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD), Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District (MV-LAUHSD), and Palo Alto Unified School Districts (PAUSD). There are ten high schools in the JPA: Cupertino High, Fremont High, Homestad High, Lynbrook High, and Monta Vista High in FUHSD; Mountain View High, Los Altos High, and Alta Vista High in MV-LAUHSD; and Gunn High and Palo Alto High in PAUSD.  The ten high schools from these districts offer Regional Occupational Program (ROP) courses within the broader context of Career Technical Education (CTE).  These courses provide students with opportunities to acquire technical skills in courses based on industry standards and aligned with academic content standards.   These skills help prepare students for success in a changing workplace and in post-secondary education.

According to information from Santa Clara County ROP, ninety-five percent of students successful in completing an ROP course either obtain entry-level positions in their trained field or continue education in related fields of study at the college level. Many ROP courses articulate with local district community colleges. The articulation agreement, an advanced placement college credit process, permits students to move from one course or program level to another without experiencing a delay or duplication of learning.

Credentialed instructors provide hands-on training on modern, up-to-date equipment. ROP promotes effective learning within context.  In addition to strong academic and technical content, the curriculum includes a foundation essential to all students whether they go on to a higher education or out to work. This foundation includes:

-    Reading, writing, performing mathematical operations, listening and speaking skills

-    Creative thinking, making decisions, solving problems, visualizing, knowing how to learn and reason

-    Displaying responsibility, self-esteem, sociability, self-management, integrity and honesty

-    Working with others

-    Identifying, organizing, planning, and allocating resources

-    Acquiring and using information

-    Understanding complex interrelationships

-    Working with a variety of technologies *
